The Horton Point Lighthouse, built in 1857 under the direction of the U.S. Treasury’s Lighthouse Board, rises above the bluffs of the Long Island Sound in Southold, New York. Constructed of sturdy stone, it once guided countless vessels through the busy waters off the North Fork. The lighthouse was deactivated in the 1930s but later restored, and today it stands as part of the Southold Historical Society’s museum complex. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Horton Point remains a striking reminder of Long Island’s maritime past.
